Tissue Paper Rainbows

Our tissue paper rainbow project is a great way to work on fine motor skills.  We used pre-cut craft tissue squares to make this pretty picture.  This is a fun rainy day or classroom activity.

What you'll need:

  • Pre-cut colored tissue squares or  1” x 1” tissue squares in Purple, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red

  • Glue stick or white glue

  • White cotton balls

  • Construction paper

  • Kidfunideas.com Rainbow Printout pattern

How to make it:

  1. Print out the Rainbow picture pattern and cut out the rainbow image.  Mount the rainbow on your choice of construction paper using a glue stick.

  2. Taking one square of tissue at a time and bunch it up.  Dip the tissue into white glue and add it to the row of the corresponding color on the rainbow pattern.  Continue adding tissue squares according to the color labels on the pattern until the rainbow is completely filled with tissues.

  3. For the clouds:  Dip one cotton ball at a time into white glue and apply it to the cloud shape until the entire cloud is covered in cotton balls.

  4. If you decide not to mount your picture on cardstock, you can apply your tissue directly to the rainbow printout. Once your picture is completely dry, you can use crayons to color in the sky if desired.
